Star Wars Galactic Racer Tips for Beginners
20 tips for your first Tours, each taken from guides written from the release build and linked to its sources. Tips link to the mechanic they relate to. Data checked 7 October 2026.
Tips
-
Tip 1 · Tours (campaign runs)
Each race allows a limited number of crashes that shrinks with difficulty (roughly 4, 3, 2, then 1). Use them all and you are wrecked, lose your League Token and the run ends, so finishing safely matters more than winning early races.
-
Tip 2 · Abilities
Before the countdown, enter the button prompts shown for each equipped ability. Doing them fills your Afterburner and strengthens each ability's first use. If you have Autopilot, do its prompt first: it completes the others for you.
-
Tip 3
For a perfect start, feather the throttle so the gauge sits in the second zone when the countdown ends. The boost is small, but some Parts trigger off a perfect start.
-
Tip 4 · Ramjet
Afterburner refills on its own and can be tapped on and off, so hold it whenever it is ready. Ramjet cannot be feathered: once you let go it must fully recharge, so only fire it when you can use the whole burst.
Also relates to Afterburner.
-
Tip 5 · Redline
Holding Ramjet pushes the engine into the redline zone for extra speed, but staying past it overheats the craft: it can explode, knock out abilities and Afterburner, or leave a debuff for the rest of the tour.
-
Tip 6 · Heat and planetary status effects
Water and ice patches cool your engine and let Ramjet run longer. On Ando Prime the cold (Frozen) keeps Ramjet from overheating, but freezing also hurts handling, so drive through heat sources to thaw.
-
Tip 7 · Upgrades
Early on, put upgrade points into Cornering (tighter, faster turns) and Resilience (fewer malfunctions, better hazard resistance), both in-tour Upgrade Packs and permanent upgrades.
GamingBolt names drift/cornering as the top priority; GamesRadar adds Resilience.
-
Tip 8 · Upgrades
The campaign starts with only the landspeeder. Spend Tuning Points early to unlock the speeder bike and skim speeder, then keep spending them on permanent upgrades for all three.
-
Tip 9 · Credits
Credits are spent on parts and abilities inside a tour (you always get some when starting a new tour). Tuning Points buy permanent upgrades and vehicle unlocks. Kit Points are cosmetic only.
-
Tip 10 · Credits
Visit Hibi's shop at every planet. A restock costs 250 Credits; if no part is worth buying, a 1,500-Credit Upgrade Pack still adds a stat point. Reported
-
Tip 11 · Tours (campaign runs)
The tour map shows every branching event across all planets. Plan past the next event: forks can stay split into the next planet and limit your choices.
-
Tip 12 · Eliminator Race
In Eliminator races the last-place drivers drop out until three remain; finish outside the top three and you lose your League Token. They pay better, so take them once your craft is strong.
-
Tip 13 · Racer Styles
Racer Styles set your starting ability: Survivor starts with Shield, Tenacious with Autopilot and one extra crash, Ramjet Rider with Vent and better cooling. Getting at least one ability early makes a big difference.
GamesRadar also suggests Sebulba's Feet First Favor for a free ability after the first event (single source).
-
Tip 14 · Racer Styles
Only Survivor is available in campaign at first (Ramjet Rider in multiplayer). There are 14 Racer Styles; campaign ones unlock by how you play, for example heavy Ramjet use unlocks Ramjet Rider and takedowns unlock Brawler. Conditions are listed in the logbook; multiplayer styles unlock by rank.
-
Tip 15 · Abilities
Trigger Autopilot before dangerous sections such as tight cave runs. It steers for you (sometimes through shortcuts) while you still fire other abilities, but it can still crash.
-
Tip 16 · Sidebets
Sidebets unlock in Act 2. Betting repeatedly on the same racer during a planet can turn them into a Rival who later challenges you head-to-head; beating them permanently unlocks their Favor. There are 11 rivals.
Also relates to Rivalries and Favors. GamesRadar advises against costly bets on Kestar Bool.
-
Tip 17 · Heat and planetary status effects
On Sentinel I, acid causes an instant System Malfunction and chokes the Ramjet; staying in it destroys your craft and can chain into Faulty Parts. Shield or Status Scrubber help counter it.
Also relates to Malfunctions and Faulty Parts.
-
Tip 18 · Malfunctions
Malfunctions put temporary downsides on parts (for example freezing when Afterburner fuel runs out). They can be repaired at set points in the run, so keep Credits for repair costs.
-
Tip 19 · Mystery Encounter
Character encounters on the map offer deals with a trade-off, such as more upgrade points but halved Credit payouts, or changing Hibi's shop prices. They can set up a whole run.
-
Tip 20 · Arcade mode
Arcade has time trials with preset vehicles for low-pressure practice. Scenarios let you play a short five-event tour with a fixed build to try a Racer Style.
Five-event length is GamesRadar only. Also relates to Scenario mode.
More tips (single source)
Each of these comes from one outlet only, so treat them as reported until confirmed elsewhere.
-
You can pay 2 Tuning Points at the start of a Tour to reset where your permanent upgrade points are spent. Reported
-
Parts revolve around specific triggers and status effects. Commit to one theme (for example Ramjet cooling plus redline triggers) and skip Overcharge/Energy parts if you carry few abilities. Reported
-
Accessibility options include Simple Pre-Race Checks (easier ability inputs), Auto-Deactivate Ramjet (cuts Ramjet near the end of the redline zone) and Boost Mode (tap instead of hold for Afterburner/Ramjet). Reported
-
A first-person camera is available but the game never mentions it; it is a control toggle in settings. Reported
Unlocking vehicles
- Landspeeder
- Available from the start of the campaign (default).
- Speeder Bike
- Unlock with 10 Tuning Points on the Vehicle Select screen at the start of a tour.
- Skim Speeder
- Unlock with 20 Tuning Points on the Vehicle Select screen at the start of a tour.

Length, modes & difficulty
How long to beat Reported
~10 h campaign
70-100 h platinum
About 10 hours for one full campaign clear (3 acts); about 20 hours for a reviewer to finish the campaign and sample other modes; 70-100 hours for the platinum/all achievements.
PowerPyx estimates 10 hours for Step 1 (campaign on any difficulty) and 70-100 hours to platinum. Game Informer says 'twenty hours later, with the campaign behind me and plenty more time' in other modes. GameSpot's reviewer played 16+ hours. HowLongToBeat had no data at read time. Run-based structure makes length vary heavily with skill and luck.
Modes
- Campaign (3 acts, run-based Tours)
- Arcade (50 time trials, plus 3 Deluxe-only events)
- Scenarios
- Online multiplayer (Multiplayer Tours and single quick races)
Campaign is split into 3 acts; losing a run restarts the current act (PowerPyx). After the campaign you can restart from Act III or replay all; there is no New Game Plus (Radio Times). Reviewers note no free custom race / private lobby at launch.

Difficulty Reported
- Cadet
- Pilot (recommended)
- Ace
- Champion (unlocked after finishing the campaign)
Radio Times names all four. PowerPyx confirms Cadet and Champion: Champion raises AI skill/aggression, cuts allowed crashes and only refreshes 3 crashes per planet instead of every event; Act 3 on Champion is required for a trophy. IGN says allowed crashes scale 4/3/2/1 across difficulty, consistent with four levels. Names Pilot and Ace are single-source. PS Store lists 'Adjustable Difficulty (Advanced)'; Steam lists 'Adjustable Difficulty'.
