Boosts

Afterburner

The standard, milder boost. Its gauge refills as you race.

  • Activated with X on PS5 (PS Blog hands-on).
  • The Afterburner stat sets how much boost you get and how fast the vehicle accelerates and decelerates (in-game tooltip shown in preview build).
  • Engadget describes the gauge as gradually refilling during a race.
  • Trophy: 'Very Fast, Very Dangerous' needs 60 s of Afterburner use.

Related: Ramjet, Upgrades, Parts

Notes: Control mapping is for PS5 in the June build and may differ at launch.

Sources (6)

Ramjet

A powerful long boost that builds heat. Too much heat blows the vehicle up.

  • PS5: press and hold R3 (June hands-on).
  • A heat meter fills while Ramjet is active.
  • Overheating can destroy the vehicle; releasing early forces a full recharge before reuse (PS Blog).
  • Game Informer calls it a 'powerful but dangerous redlining turbo'.
  • Podracers are fitted with Ramjets (starwars.com); the landspeeder can use a timed Ramjet to gain seconds.
  • Environment changes heat: cold areas and water cool it, lava and flame add heat (reported).
  • Trophies: 'Punch it, Shade!' (60 s continuous Ramjet) and 'Risk, No Reward' (blow up by overheating Ramjet).

Status effects

Redline Reported

  • Engadget says heating the engine to 'Redline' for too long makes the ride explode.
  • Backer contracts reportedly include Ramjet-into-the-danger-zone goals (TheSixthAxis).
  • The Redliner Racer Style is named after the idea and its trophy requires 550 km/h for 5 s.

Related: Ramjet, Racer Styles, Backers and Backer Contracts
